Building Update – Old Upper Roof

As part of our ongoing maintenance program, Richard and Allison Lane and have laid down a waterproof membrane to protect the roof above the Old Upper. This is a spectacular room with light flooding in from the North and South sides. Most people that visit this room are impressed with the wooden floor, the windows and coffin shaped door. They are all surprised to discover the floor was put in well after The Cloisters was opened. Originally the windows would have illuminated the changing areas for the swimming pool.

Over the last couple of months some extensive work has been carried out to reinforce the waterproof protection and to enable water to be carried away from the roof area without the damage that had previously been sustained to the Function Room wall and loft as well as the roof above the disabled toilet.
